I was a little disappointed when I started to think of what I had to report on this month. I’ve pushed many of these goals aside to work on the new site, so there won’t be a ton of progress, but I also think that’s good. In a post I wrote a while back I talked about how, as a blogger, I don’t have anything to write about if I’m not living life. And life is what is happening right now. I’m so excited to launch the new site. This month we’ve made a lot of progress. Besides the progress on the site itself, I had the opportunity to work with Ball-Spencer Photography for a few head-shots and other photos for the blog. I’m also finishing up a freebie item that I will be offering to all who subscribe once we switch over. If you are a current subscriber, you will have to re-subscribe when the new site is launched, but I will give you more details on that when we are closer to finishing. Okay, so here is my check-in:
Goal #1: Read More
Progress: Since I wrote last, I did finish Simply Tuesday by Emily P. Freeman. I was a few chapters short when we met for book club, but I was able to finish it in a few days after. I also read and reviewed Gretchen Rubin’s Better Than Before. It was one of the books I chose for my Essential Reading List for a Simple 2016. This book was about how to create and maintain habits. You can find my review of the book here. And I finished Francine Rivers’ book Redeeming Love for this month’s book club meeting. I have to say that I was skeptical about it when it was chosen because I think Christian fiction can be corny at times, but I really enjoyed this book. It was a bit racier than I had anticipated, but I guess when the story is about a prostitute that should be expected. The plot is based on the story of Hosea in the Bible, but this book is set in the West during the Gold Rush. It is a love story between God, a farmer and a “soiled dove.” I will warn you that the beginning of the book was tough to get through for me, as a mother and woman, because Angel (the soiled dove) is sold into prostitution at the age of eight. There are no graphic details, but I think that our imaginations can be worse than the details sometimes.
I’m currently reading Some Girls by Jillian Lauren. I decided to read this book after Jillian was a guest on The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey. It is Jillian’s memoir about her time in the harem of the Prince of Brunei. Fact can really be weirder than fiction. Be aware that she uses some language in this book. A few more F-bombs than I usually prefer, but I’m fascinated by her story. I’m also reading Steadfast Love by Lauren Chandler with The Influence Network book club as well as a book about creating a bee-friendly garden. And, HUGE news, I have been chosen to be a part of the launch team for Jess Connolly and Hayley Morgan’s book, Wild and Free. Goal #2: Continue Going to Yoga
Progress: The beach towels, blankets and eye pillows that I was worried about last month has turned out to be the BEST surprise! Now, on Monday nights, we practice a bit of restorative yoga at the end of our class. We lay down with our towels and blankets and cover our eyes and just focus on breathing and paying attention to our bodies. I sleep so well after Monday night yoga classes! Our instructor has also started offering a more intense class on Saturday mornings, and so far I’ve been all three weeks. We sweat a little more in these classes than on Monday nights. I’m starting to feel stronger in some of the poses. It’s amazing how after some classes my muscles will be shaking, but I still feel so much stronger than I ever thought I would be. Not thinking I can do a pose is my biggest enemy right now. There are times I don’t try for the more difficult pose because I don’t think I can do it. I’m working on at least trying it and not being afraid to go back to the easier version if I need to, but trying none the less.
Goal #3: Lose the Baby Weight
Progress: I’ve lost about another pound. I fluctuate between being nine or ten pounds from pre-baby weight. I know that a lot of people probably wonder why I’m not dieting or doing an extreme exercise program like P90X or something, but I really want to create a lifestyle that maintains any weight loss I have. I don’t want to add things (or cut out things) that won’t be sustainable for me in the long-term. I think that just choosing healthier options a little at a time, will lead to a life where I’m at a weight I’m happy with and can easily maintain.
Goal #4: Learn Italian
Progress: Little to no progress on this goal this month. I only practiced once or twice.
Goal #5: Take a Cooking Class
Progress: Still no progress here.
Goal #6: Make Time for Play
Progress: Lakota and I went on another momma-daughter date to see Zootopia. It was a good movie, but maybe a little long for her. Also, the story-line was very adult….think government conspiracies in cartoon form. And even though it isn’t really play, I’ve been trying to incorporate more tot school into our routine. This last week we worked on handwriting skills and pattern recognition with a set of counting bears I bought on Amazon. I will admit that I’ve been a little too preoccupied with the new site and haven’t done real well with this goal. It’s amazing how much time I can waste on Canva…..
Goal #7: Develop a Signature Style
Progress: I was much happier with my second Fix from StitchFix. I only kept one shirt, but that was mostly because I’ve spent a lot of my extra money on things for the new site. You can see my review of that Fix here. My next Fix should be arriving at the end of the week. I’ll post it as well.
And since a lot of my “regular” clothes are starting to fit again (tightly, but still…), I plan to make this more of a priority once the new site launches. I have a few books I want to read and a few bloggers posts about how they started a capsule wardrobe. I am really enjoying the fact that my closet isn’t stuffed anymore. It makes it much easier to get ready and choose something to wear, but it also means I need to do laundry more often.
Goal #8: Master the Top Knot
Progress: I think I’m about there. The only thing I wish is that my hair was a bit longer so that my knot was a bit fuller, but there isn’t much I can do about that right now…
Goal #9: Continue Making our House Our Home
Progress: I finished the paper section of the KonMari method and I created a paper management system as well as completely reorganized our filing cabinet. I’ll post details later this week. I need to get moving on my KonMari because I want to have a yard sale in late April and I want to be done before then….probably won’t happen, but fingers crossed! I’m hoping to make enough from the yard sale to pay for a few projects and pieces that I’m wanting to get finished this spring because once the garden gets in full swing, I’ll be spending a lot of time with it instead of on decor projects.
Goal #10: Make Devotions & Bible Study Part of My Daily Life
Progress: I’m still working on Angie Smith’s Seamless study…still with no consistency. But as my yoga instructor says, “Progress not perfection!”
I have to admit that while I didn’t make any progress on some of my goals, I made more progress than I thought now that I’ve written it all out for you. That’s another reason that I like sharing all of these goals with you, not only do I get my accountability, but I’m forced to take time and look back at my progress. It is easy for us the only think about the fact that we aren’t doing as well as we want, but as Joyce Meyer says, “I may not be where I need to be, but thank God I’m not where I used to be.”
